"What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words". ~ Prov. 18:21 (Good News Translation)
"Words can bring death or life! Talk too much, and you will eat everything you say".
~ Prov. 18:21 (Contemporary English Version)
When was the last time you said "thank you" or even "I love you"? Have you tried saying "I'm sorry?" These very simple words carry such a huge impact in our lives. Thank you - meaning you are appreciated. I love you - meaning you are cared for. I'm sorry - do I really need to explain this one? These simple words can really ease one's depression and anxieties.
It is so very true that what you say preserves or destroys life. The King James Version of Proverbs 18:21 says "Death and life lie in the power of the tongue". The book of James chapter 3 and verse 6 says "...the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity". And again James says in the same chapter and verse 8 that "...no human being can tame the tongue...". What a revelation - of ourselves, we have no ability to even speak an encouraging word! That's where the power of God comes into to play. The Holy Spirit of God enables a person to give an encouraging word. To speak words of praise. To speak life to someone. Words that are needed to heal when feeling down and depressed or full of anxiety. Words that offer comfort when dealing with a chronic illness. Words that give HOPE in the face of in impossible situation.
It all starts, first, with speaking to God the Father. If we can't give God a good word, then we can't expect to give man a good word. Words like "Thank you, God". Even, "I love you, God". And the big one - "I'm sorry, God". Impact. Words have impact!
Think about it. How do YOU feel when someone tells you "thanks"? Don't you yearn to hear the words "I love you"? I'm sure you are touched when someone says "I'm sorry". Well, just as you are affected when hearing these words, so it is with God. He wants to hear the words "thank you". He just loves it when we tell Him "I love you". And you know what? He is touched when we repent. When we say "I'm sorry, Lord". To tell the truth, God DESERVES to hear these very same words! God is worthy of our praise and adoration. When the "vertical relationship" is in order, then the "horizontal relationship" will fall into place.
Thank you. I love you. I'm sorry. Such powerful words. Such an impact they possess. Have you considered the impact on you? What about the impact of saying "thank you" to your family? Your neighbor? The cashier at your neighborhood grocery store? Try it. It just might make their day! And don't forget to remember where all your blessings come from. From God the Almighty Father. Let God, your family, friends, neighbors, know that they are truly appreciated! It's never too late to start. Start speaking these words and watch "THE IMPACT" they will bring!!!
Thank YOU for sharing in this journey with me. I love you in Jesus' name!
