Expressions of love - the Language of Love, heals. When life has you feeling down in the dumps and feeling depressed, love lifts you up and assures you that you can make it another day.
During this month of February, we Americans have a day where we celebrate love. We call it "Valentine's Day". It is the time to express your love and affection to your special someone. They are often showered with cards, balloons, gifts, and of course, chocolate! But more importantly, they are showered with our love and affection, and some personal time with one another.

Love is a choice. We choose to love not for our benefit, but for the sake of others. But love does not always come naturally. That's why we sometimes call it a "sacrifice of love".
A common reason why so many have made bad choices in life is because they did not feel loved. Or the love they thought they were experiencing, was inappropriate. There is an innate part of every living creature to experience and respond to love. And why not, for we were made from love. God is love.
In this day and time, many sacrifices have been made. Many sacrifices are STILL being made. Whether it be an encouraging word or a thoughtful gift, the Language of Love prevails. When someone is suffering with a chronic illness, we sacrifice our time or even finances in order to promote their healing. When the feelings of depression and anxiety show up, we lend an ear just to show our support.
LOVE is a choice. So choose carefully. Choose wisely. Our choices can create or allay stress and confusion. It can help alleviate unnecessary anxieties. I once came across this powerful insight from Dr. Charles Stanley's Intouch devotional reading. The article is titled "Love, Ruth". It says "Loves does not seek pain---but it doesn't run from it either! Love always leaves a mark. And those marks are our evidence that we love boldly, vulnerably, and without selfish reservation." So my question to you is - what scars and callouses do YOU bear from loving others?
I'm reminded of the scars and callouses that someone STILL bears because they loved ME! That someone's name is JESUS! Yes, He is still bearing the scars from the nails in His hands, the thorn in His side, the crown of thorns on His head, and yes the stripes on His back! And why? That's the Language of Love in action!
Love is a choice. Jesus chose to love not for His benefit, but for the sake of others. The difference is that His love always comes naturally. He is the perfect "sacrifice of love"!

There is a song that I just absolutely LOVE! It's titled "Spread Love" by the accapella singing group Take 6. I honestly try to live this song! What this world needs today is to be shown love. God is love. The world needs to be shown God. And the only way to do that is through God's only begotten Son, Jesus. A card is good. A thoughtful gift is great. But to really help heal the hurts of the body, mind, and soul, it takes God! God, the Language of Love prevails!!!
