Hope thou in God…..
What is hope? I mean, really, what is it? We use the word a lot. “I hope I pass this test. I hope this person will call me”. Just a couple of examples. Hope---(to trust in, wait for, look for or desire something or someone, or to expect something beneficial in the future, taken from Baker’s Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology) is more than just a careless wish. It is a trust. It's an expectation! In Psalm 42:11 the writer encourages its readers to “hope in God” regardless as to what may or may not be happening. Hope in God!
We place a lot of hope/trust in things. We even place a lot of hope/trust in people. But where does God stand? Do we have expectations in God like we have expectations in our job? Or our financial institution? Again Psalm 42:11 says this, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” Problems come and problems will go. But God? He remains constant. He’s always there, willing and able to lead you by the hand. This is what I’m learning.
Hope is to wait for, to expect something beneficial in the future. What are we waiting for? What can we expect in the future? Oh, I'm getting excited right now!!! I can say I'm waiting for, I'm expecting the "soon to come" second appearing of Jesus the Christ! Oh yeah, it's been talked about for over 2,000 years, which makes it all-the-more urgent today. He's on His way back. Can't you see the signs? Did you ever dream that you would live to see a time like now? Worldwide chaos. New sicknesses and diseases. Racial tensions. Political divisions. Global warming. These signs all point to this truth - Jesus is soon to return!
So, as we all continue in this experience with Covid-19, let's not forget where our trust lies. Where our desire is. Where our hope is. It's not in our government. Not in our place of employment. We've already seen the results of that! And as much as our family and friends love us, our hope is not in them either. Our only hope is in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. He is our provider and protector.
I just want to encourage you my friend. Hope in God. For only He is able to provide answers to our day-to-day living challenges. When you place your hope in Him, I promise you, He will never fail you. While our government is struggling trying to figure out ways to help its people, God has already done the work. He provided His Son, Jesus the Christ. Won't you trust Him today?
Enjoy living!!!
